Copper Mystery Pendulum with Angel Number

The Art of the Pendulum… and Why Everyone Should Have One (at least)

Are you curious about pendulums? You may have heard of them before, but may not know how to use one or why you should.

Over the past few months, we’ve participated in various pop-ups and events that have reaffirmed what our intuition has shown us (we of course confirmed with our pendulums): people are definitely curious about and love using pendulums. Why? Simply put, the reason is that they are finding answers buried deep within their subconscious mind to reveal what they already know.

Our greatest joy is seeing the look on someone’s face the first time they try using a pendulum. It’s a cocktail of astonishment, awe, excitement, and newfound awareness. We love educating our clients and those who want to learn about pendulums and demonstrating how to use them. Connecting with others in this way is a big part of our approach to introducing pendulums into their lives.

Part of our story is that we were divinely guided to do this work.  With that, we feel it is our responsibility to bring pendulums to light to as many people as possible. The pendulum is one of many tools to check in with ourselves and discover our inner wisdom and guidance. We believe everyone should have at least one pendulum. Pendulums can be as simple as a weight on a string. However, for us, handcrafting the most beautiful pendulums is an art form that we put a lot of heart and soul into. The stones used in our products are selected with intention and contain healing properties that are matched with an angel number for added guidance and inspiration. Like a blooming angelic flower, each and every HeartCentric Divine Creation is divinely designed and created to be as unique as its owner. We, without a doubt, believe that each pendulum we make will find the hands of the person that it is meant for. We’ve witnessed this happening first-hand many times. It’s a personal piece of jewelry that is unique to every individual. As such, you want to love it, like you do your favorite heirloom.

Pendulums are powerful tools that can also be misconceived. There is much to learn and it’s tough to know where to begin. So if you’re curious and want to learn more about these amazing tools read on…

What are pendulums, and how are they used?

Pendulums have been used as ancient divination tools for centuries. For spiritual healing, they can bring subconscious energy into conscious awareness to give you answers to questions you may have and inner growth. They are used as a form of reflection by asking questions to receive guidance, awareness, and understanding. Pendulums are a spiritual way to get clear and to connect to your inner core and external guiding energies. You should always use them for your highest good.

As there is vibrational energy in everything, the energy within us runs through our arms and down through the pendulum. They can help you gain insight by asking them yes or no questions and seeing how they respond.

History of Pendulums

There is evidence that pendulums were used in ancient Egypt and Rome as dowsing and divination devices, but their use may pre-date recorded history. Psychics and healers have used pendulums since ancient times for divination, locating things, or simply seeking answers to questions. These pendulums were usually made from a crystal or a gold ring hanging from a silk cord or a light gold chain. Pendulums were probably most widely popularized by Galileo in the late 16th century. His breakthrough experiments led to the law of the pendulum which would later be used in the construction of clocks, as it could be used to regulate them. These early experiments and the use of pendulums allow scientists to calculate the shape of the Earth

How to choose a pendulum

It is important to follow your intuition and pick one you feel attracted to and comfortable with. Usually, one will jump out at you. It is sometimes said that the ‘pendulum often picks you; you don’t pick the pendulum’. Occasionally when you first pick one up, it may not react as strongly as you'd like it, and sometimes not at all. It’s important to get grounded and clear your head. Spend some time with it so your energies are connected. Another reason may be that it needs to be cleansed and charged. Keep an open mind, allow it to guide you, and receive.

How to Care for Your Pendulum

It’s important to cleanse and charge your pendulum just as you would your stones and crystals. Our pendulums are created with crystals, stones, and natural gemstones, which can absorb the energy around them. You will get the best results from your pendulum if it has only your energy to work with. Thus, it's good pendulum hygiene to cleanse it before using it the first time and then periodically thereafter. Doing so will make it more responsive and bring out its full potential. If you allow others to touch or play with it, no worries. Just make sure to cleanse and charge it afterward.  There are many ways to cleanse your pendulum. Here, we’ll throw out a few easy ways, and stay tuned for more in-depth blog posts on this topic.

  • Keep it stored in a selenite bowl or let it charge on a slab of selenite.
  • Let it charge in the moonlight outside overnight (safe for all stones)
  • Charge in direct sunlight for up to 4 hours. Avoid the noon hour when it’s overly bright or hot. Also, know that some crystals fade quickly if exposed to direct sunlight. Do not use this method on fluorite or amethyst as they will lose their color.
  • Smudge it with sage, incense, or palo santo
  • Infuse it with Reiki and good energy

How to Work with Your Pendulum

Understand the Directional Swings. Pendulums swing in vertical straight lines, horizontal straight lines, and circular movements. This can be done side-by-side, front and back, clockwise, counterclockwise, in an elliptical motion, or even in a bobbing movement up and down, which often indicates a strong affirmative action.

Calibrate your pendulum.  Assign each directional swing a "response" by first asking the pendulum to show you what certain responses look like. For example, start off by asking, "What does a YES look like?" and subsequently, "What does a NO look like?" Posing these questions to your pendulum will help define what your individual “yes” and “no” is. The swing is different for each individual and does not change, no matter what pendulum you work with. We advise not sharing your pendulum, but we’ll get into that later. Once you know your directional swing, you can move on to more interesting and important questions.

Prepare Questions: A question should be one that can be answered with a positive, negative, or neutral response.

Good Question Example: "Is the home I’m considering putting an offer on the right home for me?” Or, “Is it in my highest good to take the job offer I got this morning?”

Set Intentions

Before you sit down with your pendulum to begin a session, it’s important to set an intention. It may be as simple as saying something like, "I receive truthful answers that are for the optimal good of all involved”.

Questions to Ask Before and Between the Next: Be prepared to ask several questions in order to receive enough information to aid in the quest for thorough answers. Make sure to completely stop any pendulum motion between questions to clear any lingering energies that pertain to the previous questions.

You’re Ready to Begin!

Using a pendulum is honing your own wisdom and intuition. Like a muscle, the more you practice, the stronger and easier it gets. Remaining present and observing your thoughts, feelings, and sensations will help you recognize when you are accessing your intuitive knowing. Simply being open,  slowing down, listening for the answers you seek, and most importantly, connecting with your pendulum takes you into the hidden realms of your subconscious. You are simply manifesting your own answers and the magic that is already inside of YOU!

Each of us has a story to tell. Find a pendulum that tells yours.
